- Purina Mills Equine Feeds -

In our practice we use – and recommend – Purina Mills equine feed products.  They are extensively researched and tested, and Purina stands behind their products and claims.  Purina offers specialty feeds for horses with special needs, including older horses and horses with weight and metabolic issues.  We use Purina’s Equine Senior for our older horses and convalescing cases in our hospital, and have found it to be a good palatable feed.  For more information and to find a retailer near you, click on the link below.

- Arenus: Assure Plus® Supplement for Sand Clearance -

We recommend Assure Plus, an innovative sand clearance supplement that was developed by an equine veterinarian.  In clinical trials this product has been shown to help reduce sand accumulation that results in “sand colic.”  If you feed your horses in or around sandy soils, the most important thing you can do is prevent the ingestion of sand altogether.  Feed off the ground in bins or tubs, and place mats down around the feeding area where horses tend to graze on the ground.  See our article “Sand Accumulation in the Colon: A Common Cause of Equine Colic” for more information.

In addition to good preventative management, it is also helpful to feed your horses a supplement like Assure Plus.  For more information about this product click on the link below.  Note: If you enter our clinic referral code PRP-74486 when you order Arenus products from them directly, you will receive a 5% discount.
